To set up SNMP traps in Windows 2000, you must have the following installed on your system:
TCP/IP stack
Because SNMP service is based on TCP/IP protocol
SNMP service
This service is included with Windows 2000 but is not installed by default
From Control Panel/Add Remove Programs/Add Remove Windows Components, check Management and Monitoring Tools in order to the TCP/IP protocol stack
If you click Details, note that the Simple Network Management Protocol is selected
To verify the service is installed, open the Computer Management from the Administrative Tools
Select Services from the left pane tree
Search down in the services installed for two services:
SNMP Service
SNMP Trap Service
Try to start each service and make sure each succeeds
Now you are ready to configure SNMP Traps.
