Adding Phrases and Configuring Greetings

After you have recorded and tuned the phrases, you can add phrases to a control and configure the greetings for a control. You accomplish this by using the Greetings Property Page of a VBVoice control.

Greetings Property Page

Use this page to create and modify greetings. Access this page by clicking on the control button (upper left hand icon) of the desired control and selecting the Greetings tab.

Adding a Phrase to a Greeting

To add a VAP phrase to the greeting:
  1. Click on the control button of the desired control.

  2. Click Add Phrase from the Greeting dialog. The Phrase Dialog appears.

  3. Select the VAP page.

  4. Select the VAP File and phrase within that file.

  5. Click Add Phrase.

  6. Repeat as required to add additional phrases.

To add a system phrase to the greeting:
  1. Click on the control button of the desired control.

  2. Click Add Phrase from the Greetings page.

  3. Select the System Phrase page.

  4. Select the required System Phrase type and fill in any required fields

Using the VAP Phrase Dialog

Use the VAP Phrase dialog to add a phrase from a VAP phrase file to the greeting. The phrase files must be located in the Voice directory, as specified in the VBVFrame VoiceDirectory dialog.

Find your desired phrase and double-click the phrase or click Add / Replace to insert the phrase into the list.

VAP File

Shows all VAP files in the VBVoice directory and in the project directory specified in the VBVFrame control. When you select a new file, the phrase list is updated to show all the phrases in the list.

Phrase List

Shows the phrases in the current VAP file. When you select a new file, the phrase list is updated to show all the phrases in the list.

Show Phrases Containing

The phrases shown may be filtered if text is entered in the Show Phrases Containing field. Whenever this box is changed, the Phrase list is updated to only show the phrases containing the text shown. If the box is blank, all phrases are shown.

Announce Button

Starts up or switches to Announce and opens the selected phrase for enhanced editing capabilities. This button is disabled if Announce is not installed.

Play Phrase Button

Plays the currently selected phrase.

Create File Button

Opens a file selection dialog for VAP phrase file creation.

Edit Phrase Button

Opens the built-in phrase editor.

Delete Phrase Button

Permanently deletes the phrase from the VAP file. To delete a phrase from a greeting, close the Select Phrase dialog, select the phrase in the Greeting dialog, and click Delete.

New Phrase Button

Creates a new, empty phrase in the Phrase file. Enter the required script for the phrase. This script is then added to the Phrase list. Click Edit Phrase to add the voice for this phrase. In the voice editor you can create more new phrases. These phrases are added to the phrase list after you save the file in Announce! and return to Visual Basic.

Shortcut

Double-click a phrase to select it and add it to your greeting.

Using the System Phrase Dialog

Use the System Phrase page to add a system phrase to the greeting. System phrases vocalize money, times, dates, numbers, and other phrases.

Certain system phrases require parameters to be set. When you choose such a phrase, the System Phrase page displays the parameter fields to be filled out. For example, if you select a Date system phrase, you must specify the actual date to be vocalized and the format for vocalizing it (e.g. Day, Month, Year).

Configuring a Greeting

After you have added phrases to a control, you can then configure the properties of the greeting.

Many controls have more than one greeting. Within the greeting property page, select the greeting you want to view and modify from the Greeting drop-down list. If there is just one greeting in the control, this box is disabled.

Terminate On Digit

Selected by default. VBVoice stops playing the greeting as soon as a DTMF digit is detected. If cleared, any digits pressed while the greeting plays are not detected or buffered. This implies that they are not available for subsequent operations.

List Button

Plays the entire greeting. This allows you to check the concatenation of the different phrases. System phrases cannot be played from this dialog.

Phrase Button

Plays the currently selected phrase. System phrases cannot be played from this dialog.

Remove Button

Deletes the currently selected phrase from the greeting.

Add Phrase Button

Shows the Phrase dialog in which VAP Phrases or System phrases can be selected.

Select a phrase and drag it to a new position.
