Using Hmp

What is HMP?

Intel Host Media Processing (HMP) software is a new generation of media processing technology designed to enable lower total cost of ownership and time-to-market development of media processing solutions.

HMP provides basic media services that developers can use to build flexible, scalable, and cost-effective modular network elements for voice and data services. This software performs media processing tasks on general-purpose servers based on Intel architecture without the use of specialized hardware.

When installed on a system, the Intel NetStructure Host Media Processing software looks like an Intel Dialogic board with DM3 architecture to the customer application, but all media processing takes place on the host processor.

HMP supports all types of media applications that were normally supported by dedicated Dialogic DM3 cards. Starting from version 2.0 there is support for PSTN connectivity (T1/E1) using special cards, called thin blades.

VBVoice 8 includes a new DLL that provides support of HMP 3.0, that still supports HMP 2.0. This interface was also created with an optimized threading model.

What are its Benefits?

HMP offers many significant financial advantages:

  1. Lower cost of inventory and startup

  2. Lower development costs

  3. Lower deployment costs

  4. Lower sparing costs

  5. Lower maintenance costs

  6. High level of resource configuration
