About Licensing and the Runtime Manager

The Pronexus Runtime Manager (RTM) manages design-time and runtime licenses for VBVoice. The RTM is run on a local area network (LAN) and manages VBVoice licenses of computers running on the network.

The RTM uses a floating license model. When a machine running VBVoice requires a license, the RTM grants it. When VBVoice releases the license, it is placed back into the pool of available licenses. This process is transparent to VBVoice users and developers. Most licenses do not require any extra Visual Basic coding and they are automatically allocated and freed according to the capacity of the application.

Because RTM uses TCP/IP protocol for all its communications, it may be accessed remotely through VPN or the Internet, simply by specifying the IP address of the machine it is running on. For small VBVoice applications, the RTM can be installed along with the application on the same computer.

In the event of RTM hardware failure, VBVoice offers a Secondary RTM, which takes all responsibility for providing licenses for a limited period of time. Once the Primary RTM is fixed, the Secondary automatically goes back to sleep.

VBVoice license types include runtime licenses, text-to-speech and speech recognition licenses, and developer seat licenses. VBVoice also offers custom licenses, which allow you to enforce custom licensing for your own applications.
